In Memoriam: Prof. Vladimir Katić, PhD (1954–2026)

Professor Vladimir Katić

With profound sadness and immense respect, the Power Electronics Society of Serbia bids farewell to its long-standing distinguished member and president, and a titan of our scientific community as well, Professor Vladimir Katić, PhD.
Professor Katić was not only an elite scientist and educator but a cornerstone of the Power Electronics community in our region. His passing leaves an irreplaceable void at the Faculty of Technical Sciences in Novi Sad, as well as within the entire international engineering family to which he belonged for decades.

Professor Katić graduated from the Faculty of Technical Sciences in Novi Sad (1978) and earned his Master’s and Doctoral degrees from the School of Electrical Engineering in Belgrade. Throughout his impressive career, he published over 600 scientific papers and 22 monographs and textbooks. With nearly 2,100 citations and an h-index of 20, he was one of the most influential researchers in the fields of power quality, renewable energy sources, and electric vehicles. As a reviewer with more than 500 recognized reviews, he was deeply respected by the editorial boards of the world’s most prestigious scientific journals.

His organizational legacy is indelible. He was the founder and president of the Power Electronics Society of Serbia, president of the ETRAN Society, and an active member of the executive boards of international associations such as EPE (Brussels) and PEMC (Budapest). He chaired numerous conferences, most notably the EPE-PEMC 2012 ECCE Europe, which placed Novi Sad and Serbia at the center of the global power electronics map.

A special place in his career was held by his role as the General Chair of the International Symposium on POWER ELECTRONICS (Ee). He held this prestigious position for thirty years, from 1995 to 2025, transforming the symposium into one of the most significant scientific events in this part of Europe. He was the soul and driving force of this symposium.

As an IEEE Life Member, Professor Katić personified a lifelong commitment to the engineering profession. His contributions to the Section’s work were versatile and tireless.
He served as the Chair of the IEEE Serbia and Montenegro Section (2006–2010), a period marked by a significant strengthening of international cooperation. Until his final days, he remained active as the Chair of the IEEE Life Member Affinity Group, preserving the legacy and fostering connections among the most experienced members of our community. He was the long-standing Chair of the IEEE Joint Chapter for Industry Applications, Industrial Electronics, and Power Electronics (IE-13/IA-34/PEL-35), where he used his authority to bridge the gap between academia and industry.

Professor Vladimir Katić will be remembered as a man of incredible energy, a gentle mentor, and a dear colleague who always found time for young researchers and students. His vision of an energy-efficient future and his unwavering ethics remain a guiding light for us all.

The Power Electronics Society of Serbia extends its deepest condolences to Professor Katić’s family and colleagues.
May his legacy be eternal, and we thank him for everything he gave to our science and the IEEE community.

Digital Archive of the International Symposium on "Power Electronics" (Ee) Now Available Online

We are pleased to announce that a complete digital archive of papers from the International Symposium on "Power Electronics" (Ee) has been established.
With a tradition spanning more than five decades since its founding in 1973, this symposium serves as a key gathering point for experts, researchers, and engineers in the fields of power electronics and electrical drives. In an effort to preserve our rich scientific heritage, we have provided free access to the papers that have shaped the development of this profession.

What does the archive include?

  • Open Access (1973–2015): All papers presented during this period are now available to the public under Open Access principles. Researchers, professors, and engineers can freely browse and use these materials for scientific and research purposes.
  • Papers from 2017 to Present: Following modern publishing standards, recent conference proceedings are indexed and available through the global IEEE Xplore database.

We invite you to explore decades of professional knowledge and technical achievements gathered in one place.

Easy Search:
The digital archive is equipped with a search function that allows you to quickly find specific papers. If you need assistance using the filters, simply click the question mark (?) button next to the search field.

You can access the digital archive here: http://papers.dee.ftn.uns.ac.rs/

We look forward to seeing you in Belgrade at the 24th International Symposium on POWER ELECTRONICS Ee 2027.
